Gucci's family of dive watches just got a new member. Meet the Italian house's new range of environmentally-minded timepieces, crafted from a rubber-like material made of "bio- based content" — a term that typically refers to material derived from renewable, natural sources. Per a press release, at least 46 percent of the bracelet and 65 percent of the case is comprised of this eco-minded content.
Components including the crown, buckle, and case back are made of recycled steel. As for functionality, the watches are water resistant up to 200 meters (20 ATM) and feature phosphorescent dials and markers for legibility.
Speaking of markers: ho-hum numerals won't cut it for Gucci, beloved for its playful, maximalist aesthetic. Instead of numbers, time is kept by stars and bees, emblems often incorporated into the house's other offerings.
With their rubbery, translucent build, bright colourways, and cheerful detailing, Gucci's bio-based accessories are kind of like the jelly shoe of dive watches.
