Pellicano Closes a €200 Million Investment Deal and Announces an Expansion Plan

In an effort to become the leading hospitality brand in Italy, Pellicano Hotels, the family-operated Italian hotel chain led by Marie-Louise Sci and renowned for its excellent style, attentive service, and stylish clientele, has sold an undisclosed interest to Aermont Capital.

Aermont agreed to spend €200 million on new real estate purchases throughout Italy as part of the agreement in order to expand Pellicano's portfolio. Pellicano currently runs three establishments: Mezzatorre on the island of Ischia, Posta Vecchia west of Rome, and Il Pellicano on the Tuscan coast. Over the following few years, the group plans to add an additional five to seven hotels.

The group's CEO and creative director, Sci, said, "The ambition is to grow, but it has to be manageable." "The personal aspect is crucial... I never want magic to disappear. We're in the business of imparting emotions, in my opinion. What you feel is something you cannot buy. I want to practice hospitality that is both timelessly traditional and intensely regional.

After the Aermont deal, Sci, who was appointed chief executive and creative director in 2012, will continue in the dual roles. Sci has brought a distinctive point of view to high-end hospitality, fusing vintage charm with contemporary fashionability, and has grown a company that started with a single hotel owned by her father into a global lifestyle brands.

While Margherita Missoni, Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, and Jean Touitou's favorite hotels continue to be Pellicano's mainstay, the company also sells its own merchandise, has partnered with companies like Birkenstock and Matchesfashion, and runs an online store called Issimo.

Issimo, which sells a combination of Italian food, design, and fashion, was introduced at the height of the epidemic and presently only contributes around 3% of sales, according to Sci. However, it serves to promote brand positioning and awareness.

It's entertaining and a wonderful brand expansion. It's a location where individuals who might not be able to visit the hotels can nevertheless partake in it, according to Sci.

The Aermont purchase takes place at a time when high-end travel is increasing and Pellicano, albeit still a tiny company, is expanding. Revenues increased by 36% to €30 million last year, and €7.5 million was made in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
