Daughter of a well-known actor, the oldest of her siblings , a friend, a wife, a mother. But along with all these roles , Farah Khan Ali, 49, i s also a designer, a traveller, and an artist.
She was born on 28 December 1969 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She completed education from Mumbai itself. A true connoisseur of nature and beauty, Ms . Khan has never restricted herself to the expectations of others , the trends of the industry.
She finished her graduation (BA) at Sophia College, Mumbai. Then tried to Ad films to interior design and television production. She did a course in Gemology at the renowned Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, California in 1992.She got married to DJ Aqeel in 1999. They have two children, Azaan and a girl Fizaa.
She launched her own jewellery brand Farah Khan Fine Jewellery in 2004. This brand catered to all her International and domestic clients .
In 2011 Farah Khan Ali won “ the Best Jewellery Designer Award” at the Retail Jeweller India Award and “Best Fashion contemporary jewellery” at the Indian Jewellery Jeweller s choice design awards .
In 2013, she won the “Best Jewellery Designer Award” at the 9th Retail Jeweller India Awards .
The ace designer was voted by the Network 7 Media Group' s India Leadership Conclave 2015 Edition as "Innovative Leadership in Luxury Brands Concept 2015 " founded by Satya Brahma.
"Farah Khan: A Bejewelled Life" written by Paola De Luca showcases Farah' s unique aesthetic vision, which embraces the past and the future, avant -garde and traditional, local and global influences , weaving a new perspective through visual codes of the historically rich and present - day India.
The book is divided into five chapters , each denoting a world of aesthetics. The first is ‘Fluidity’ , describing the designer’s spirituality, her metamorphosis , and the way she has been reinventing herself.
She was mesmerized by the grandeur and artisanship of palaces and thus the second chapter is – ‘A Royal Affair’ . There are some portraits of Ms . Khan herself in the Palaces , imbibing the magnum opus of an architecture and heritage.
The third chapter is ‘Naturalia’ , which enraptures the moments of her constant source of inspiration and creativity. The fourth chapter, ‘Rose’ , is an ode to poetry, love and all things romance. The designer traces her memories back to Kashmir where she spent many of her holidays .
The final chapter of the book is ‘Surreal Vision’ , the art of tracing beauty in chaos , and inspiration from landscapes . The designer admits taking aid from the contradictions of textures , and colours for her graphic jewel designs.
