The highlights of the internationally renowned Mercedes-Benz Art Collection is being presented from 27 October 2022 till 11 June 2023 encompassing 150 pieces by 90 national and international artists from over 20 countries, created in the period from 1910 to the present day. The majority of the artwork will be integrated into the permanent exhibition at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
The spectrum of the exhibition ranges from south-west German classics Adolf Hölzel, Willi Baumeister and Oskar Schlemmer to young international contemporary artists such as Haris Epaminonda, Alia Farid, Cao Fei and Adejoke Tugbiyele. Work by contemporary artists who live in Stuttgart or whose biography is linked to the region is also being presented: Dieter Blum, Florina Leinß, Tobias Rehberger, Anna Tretter to name a few. Selected artwork from a broad spectrum of media are on display: from painting, drawing, sculpting and light objects to photography, installation and video.
Other parts of the exhibition allow work with musical aspects as well as commissioned work related to the automobile sector to enter into an intensive dialogue. At the centre of this exhibition’s focus is the large mobile and musical sculpture “Méta-Maxi” by Swiss artist Jean Tinguely from 1986, which can be seen in Stuttgart for the first time.
